Comedy At The Library - November 2017

What another amazing night at the library! At the Friends of Chorley Library, we're so passionate about upholding the library as not only a space for learning and community, but for culture, innovation and fun! That's why we were so thrilled to host incredible comedian James Meehan as well as the hilarious Danny Sutcliffe for a night of comedy at the library.

Yeah, okay, we know everyone thinks you have to be quiet in libraries or face some dissaproving shhes, but I think we're slowly turning the tide on that. There were huge laughs, a warm atmosphere and rapturous applause shaking the books (maybe, just maybe helped a little by our now infamous library gin bar!).

The night was perfect, and if you ever get your chance to see either of these fantastic comedians again DO. A huge thank you to James and Danny, along with their team, and as usual a big thanks to Chris Bolton for sorting our sound system; the rest of the friends group for such a stand-up job; and of course a enormous thank you to everyone who come along, we raised an incredible amount for the library!

We're really becoming such a team now, and with each event we put on things are running more and more flawlessly. It's fantastic to see such a huge, welcoming response from Chorley folk (and those who come from further away!) - we've even heard on the grapevine that the head of libraries in London is impressed with us! So here's to new events, new friends and a library full of life.

Next events:

- Nov 25th 10-12 - Friends of Chorley Library AGM (EVERYONE INVITED!) Free cake, free brews! Come and have a chat!
- Dec 16th - Christmas Bonanza! - Festive Choir, Christmas craft & illustration stalls, mince pies & warmth!

Open Mic Night & Gin Bar at Chorley Library - A Great Success!

Wow! What an amazing night our Open Mic Night & Gin Bar event turned out to be! The library was filled with almost a hundred music-lovers, poets, musicians and library supporters; and we had the most fantastic evening.

We had a really brilliantly varied bunch of performers: neo-folk musicians, gorgeously-voiced singer-songwriters, and avant garde poets! We even live-streamed some of the acts on our Twitter account, but if you missed it we have the archived videos here

The atmosphere was wonderful, and we had so much feedback from guests throughout the night telling us that this is exactly the sort of event they'd been looking for in Chorley, but could never find before. One chap even said it was his very first visit to the library, even after living in area for almost seventy years!

The Friends of Chorley Library all pitched in perfectly to organise the night, collecting as many lamps as we could get our paws on to create the wonderful make-shift stage, and spreading the word to the talented musos of the area! A gigantic thank you to Scott of Festival Events & Weddings for setting up and manning our very own gin bar for the night (the mango and peppercorn G&Ts were especially tasty!), and to Chris Bolton for not only performing amazingly, but for managing the entire sound system!

As always, all the money we raise from our events goes straight to supporting the library through funding wondrous things like prizes and glittering craft materials for children's activities, essential items, and of course brilliant events like this one which go a long way to show the library to be the warmly glowing hub of community that we know it is! We're absolutely chuffed with how the event turned out - so definitely keep your eye out for more coming up.

If you're interested in hearing more about what the Friends of Chorley Library do, or if you'd like to support the library with us, come along to one of our meet-ups - the next one is TODAY, 21st Feb 6:30pm in the library!

Again, a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in organising the event, and of course to our amazing performers! See you at the next one ;-)
